What is an eSIM?

A digital SIM that lets you get mobile data abroad without swapping cards or paying roaming charges.

The basics

A SIM card, without the card

Everything a plastic SIM does, handled by a chip that is already inside your phone.

  • Built into your phone

An eSIM is a small chip inside your phone that does the job of a SIM card. There is nothing to insert or lose.

  • Downloaded, not posted

You add a plan by scanning a QR code. It downloads in seconds, so you can buy and install before you leave home.

  • Works next to your SIM

Most phones run an eSIM alongside your normal SIM, so you keep your number for calls and texts while using local data.

Questions

Common questions

Is an eSIM safe?
Yes. An eSIM uses the same network security as a physical SIM, and it cannot be removed and reused by someone who takes your phone.
Can I have more than one eSIM?
Most phones can store several eSIMs and use one or two at a time. You can keep your Teletum eSIM installed and switch it on only when you travel.
Does an eSIM include a phone number?
Teletum plans are data only. You keep your usual number on your main SIM, and can usually call or message over apps such as WhatsApp or FaceTime, where local rules allow.
Do tablets and watches support eSIM?
Many recent iPads and Android tablets do. Smartwatch eSIMs are usually tied to your home carrier, so travel plans are designed for phones and tablets.
